Pasen in Den Haag (Easter in the Hague)

This weekend is actually my first Easter in the Hague. But I've lived here for seven years you say? Yes, it's true. But I have never actually stayed home on Easter. Since it is always a long weekend, where I have both Friady and Monday off from work, I've always taken the opportunity to go someplace, like Italy... or Portugal. It's usually somewhere with a high likelihood of sun, after the looooong dark winter. But this year, we've been quite busy and didn't plan anything. So Easter in the Hague it will be.

So for all of you that will be joining me and staying put this weekend, here are some things that are going on in and around the Hague this Easter Weekend, or Paasweekend, in Dutch.

Easter Egg hunt, Brunch and High Tea at Hotel Des Indes

The Hague's famous luxury hotel will host a children's Easter Egg hunt around the hotel in the Lange Voorhout on Easter Sunday. The finder of the special FabergĂ© inspired egg will win an overnight stay at Hotel Des Indes and entrance tickets for Madurodam. The price is 10 euros per child and the proceeds go to Unicef.  After the hunt you can indulge in an Easter Brunch or a special High Tea at the hotel restaurant. Call 70 36 12 315 to reserve.

Easter Brunch at Wicked Wines

For a more casual brunch option head to Wicked Wines on Sunday Or Monday. An easter Brunch will be served from 12:00 to 15:00 and is 12,50 euros for adults and 7,50 euros for children (excluding drinks).

Homemade Market

The Homemade Market hits the Hague on Easter Sunday and Monday at Lange Voorhout.  There will be vendors with arts, crafts, and other homemade items and goodies.  And as a special treat, you can take a ride on a historic tram!  On Easter Monday, two historic trams will service the Hague from 12:00 to 17:00 for a 25 minute tour of the city.  Rides will cost 2 euros per person.

Hey, that's cheaper than the normal tram!

One of my favorite restaurants in the Hague, Bistrot de la Place, will offer a romantic dinner with piano music on Friday, Saturday, and Monday (2e Paasdaag) evening.  For reservations call 070 364 3327.

Dutch Heritage Weekend at the Keukenhof

If you're looking to get out of town, you can head to the Keukenhof for a special heritage weekend.  Traditional cheese markets, folk dance performances, and living statues are just some of the highlights.  The event takes place from Friday to Monday.
